Turn Chords, Notes and Loops Into Rhythmic Patterns

The BOSS SL-2 Slicer is a creative rhythm effect that takes whatever you play and chops it into precisely timed patterns, transforming sustained chords, riffs and even simple single notes into pulsing grooves, stutters and animated textures.

Based on the cult-favourite SL-20 Slicer, the SL-2 packs 88 onboard patterns, extensive sound shaping, tap tempo, MIDI sync and powerful stereo processing into the familiar BOSS compact pedal format. It's equally useful with guitar, bass, keyboards, synths and loop-based setups.

This isn't simply another tremolo. The SL-2 can become part of the rhythm itself.

Our Take

The SL-2 is the pedal we'd recommend when your playing needs movement and rhythm rather than another conventional effect. Hold a chord and the Slicer can turn it into a tight, syncopated groove. Feed it a simple riff and suddenly you've got a completely different rhythmic idea. That's why players consistently describe this pedal as an inspiration or songwriting tool rather than just another modulation effect.

There's plenty of range here. You can dial it back for tremolo-style movement and subtle rhythmic pulses, or push it into hard stutters, glitchy patterns, sequenced textures and synth-like sounds. It also works extremely well alongside delay, reverb, fuzz and octave effects, giving you a strong platform for ambient, electronic and experimental sounds.

Stereo is where the SL-2 really opens up. The seven output modes can send patterns bouncing, rotating and moving across the stereo field, creating sounds that feel far larger than a single compact pedal. For recording, synth setups and stereo guitar rigs, there's a huge amount to explore.

This isn't the pedal we'd recommend if you simply need traditional tremolo. It's for the player looking for new rhythmic ideas and sounds they wouldn't naturally create with their hands alone. For songwriting, ambient guitar, electronic music, looping or adding something genuinely different to a pedalboard, the SL-2 is a seriously creative piece of gear.
