A Different Side of PRS
The PRS SE Swamp Ash Special combines a beautifully grained swamp ash body with a bolt-on maple neck, maple fingerboard and an unusually versatile three-pickup configuration.
Two 85/15 “S” humbuckers flank a PRS-designed AS-01 single coil, with a push/pull tone control and 5-way switching providing everything from full humbucker power to bright, twangy and distinctly Strat-inspired sounds. It’s a PRS with a little more snap, sparkle and rootsy character.

Our Take
The Swamp Ash Special is for the player who loves PRS quality and playability but wants something a little different from the traditional PRS formula.
The maple neck and fingerboard feel fantastic, with the Wide Thin profile and smooth fretwork making this an easy guitar to move around. That playability is one of the model's most consistently praised qualities.
But the real reason to choose this guitar is the pickup configuration. You can move from big, clear humbucker sounds into bright, bouncy single-coil territory, with enough twang for country, sparkle for funk and blues, and plenty of power when you add drive. Players particularly like that the split sounds have their own useful character rather than simply feeling like weaker versions of the humbuckers.
And then there's Iri Blue over swamp ash. The translucent finish lets the grain become part of the design, giving this guitar a look that's unmistakably PRS but refreshingly different.
